Complete Dentures If you have missing teeth, dentures are a viable replacement option recommended by the professional dental team and or prostodontist Dr. Andres Pappa at Rocket City Prosthodontics. Although it will take time to get used to dentures, we ensure they look natural and fit comfortably. We usually recommend two types of dentures for our patients: full and partial. Many people can't choose suitable dentures for their needs, and that's why we recommend consulting our team of professional prosthodontists. We assess the severity of damage and your needs, ensuring that the treatment used meets your specific needs are addressed. How Dentures Work? When you come in for full dentures, we use a flesh-colored acrylic base that fits your gums to customize dentures that cover the upper palate, and the lower dentures accommodate your tongue. You must schedule an appointment with our periodontist or dentist before denture placement, ensuring you get quality treatment and care. Once you schedule an appointment, we customize dentures in our sophisticated laboratory using impressions from your mouth. The data collected will help us choose the following dentures for treatment. Conventional Full DenturesIf you have damaged teeth that require extraction, full dentures may be used after the tissue is healed. Once teeth are removed for whatever reason, and the tissue has healed, full dentures can be installed. Before full dentures are installed, we ensure the tissue is fully healed, which usually takes several months. You will be without teeth during the healing period, but it is vital to schedule regular checkups to ensure minor issues are detected and treated. Immediate Full DenturesAs the name suggests, immediate complete dentures are inserted after teeth removal. We take measurements and design models of your jaw during the first appointment. If you never want to be without teeth, we recommend immediate dentures but ensure you schedule routine rinsing and adjustment checkups. Patients should come in for relining several months after insertion, so we can check if the bone supporting the teeth reshapes and heals properly. Nothing is more frustrating than loose dentures, compromising oral functions like chewing and speech. Partial DenturesFull dentures are worn over the gums and are usually fixed by a temporary paste by the wearer at home. However, partial dentures rest on a metallic frame attached to your natural teeth. Depending on the condition of your teeth, the dentist or prosthodontist may place crowns on your natural teeth to anchor the dentures. While full dentures are a permanent alternative, partial dentures are removable bridge alternatives. How Long Do I Get Used to My Dentures?Regardless of the type of dentures installed, you will likely feel awkward for the first weeks or months. This is usually caused when performing oral functions like eating and speaking, which will require practice. If you feel a loose or bulky feeling, this is normal during the initial stages of treatment. As your cheeks and tongue get used to the appliances. However, prolonged irritation can be a problem, and you should come in for an assessment. Our experts at Rocket City Prosthodontics are ready to help you restore your oral functions and aesthetics.
